I Made this animation in Flash. ADMIRE IT!!!!!

« on: July 29, 2010, 09:16:25 PM »

Hello, I kinda wanna try coding games so when I get good at it, I would be able to make games easier. I want to learn C++, but in order to do that I have to learn C. Any good place to start? Huh

Um, why do you have to learn C before C++, it'd be easier to learn C++ first

Really? Because I starting reading a C++ book, and it said it will be much easier if I learned C first cause I wouldn't really understand much...

Wait, so it wouldn't be so confusing if I didn't learn C first, because C++ contains C in it...

It most likly will or wont be confusing either way (depends on if YOU get confused learning somthing like this),
it's just it would be quicker and a less waste of time to just learn C++, but it doesnt matter really.

C++? Hard, hard language to learn. C is easier (I have found visual C to be very easy to learn), but if your ultimate goal is to learn C++, then go ahead and learn that first.

Creating games makes playing them so much sweeter.

This is something I can actually put my 2cents in on!
I'd suggest C++ if you plan to be working with some of the more modern game development applications. If you learn c, yes, you can move to c++, "but" you must change some of your thinking. C takes longer to code because you can't use object orientated programming. C++ is harder to learn at first but definitely worth it after you get it down. C++ and C both have a lot of tutorials.
I learned C++ first and C was really easy to switch into. Mind you that none of what I learned revolved around developing games, so I can't honestly say anything on that.

There's a great book that doesn't really show how to make games with c++, but uses it as the prime example in the book. Game Programming All In One. Very good book.
